An Island tradition for over 25 years, this restaurant is open nightly for dinner and offers generous portions of fresh fried, broiled, blackened, or grilled seafood, as well as steaks, oysters on the half shell, battered fries, hush puppies, and cole slaw, all served in a casual rustic atmosphere.

Crab Trap Review: B
Crab soup was perhaps the best I've ever tasted! Really.
More fried oysters and sauteed rock shrimp - delicious, thick little shrimp that have the taste and consistency of lobster. Prepared in a lemon-pepper sautee and served on the side. Excellent! Oysters were delicious, however I found the battered fries to be tasteless and not to my liking. Hushpuppies were mushy inside and not much better. Did I mention the soup and rock shrimp were excellent? The hushpuppies and fries need attention and keep this place from earning an "A".

Gnat's Landing
310 Redfern Village, St. Simons Island, GA 31522
912-638-7378
This lively seafood bar and grill looks the part of a Key West casual sea shack, with open-air dining and picnic tables under a large canopy roof. Every Tuesday night is all you can eat Catfish. Menu highlights include seafood gumbo, crab balls, St Simon's Stew, sweet potato fries, and of course fresh seafood.

Gnat's Landing Review: C
After about a 30 minute wait we were seated and served rather quickly. The seafood gumbo was chock full of all kinds of sea creatures and good stuff, and the cup serving size was more than enough. However, we shared the seafood combo which consisted of fried shrimp, scallops, oysters and crabcakes, and we were both a bit disappointed. The fried shrimp and scallops were ok at best, but a bit over-battered and heavily-fried for our tastes. The oysters were large (I prefer smaller size), and just had a funny taste to them (we both agreed). The crabcakes were overly spicy and seemed more frozen than fresh. The fries and hushpuppies were nothing special. We passed over the oysters and crabcake leaving them uneaten and overall we just felt this place needs to focus a lot more on the food and less on the marketing.
Iguana's
303 Mallery Street, St. Simons Island, GA 31522
912-634-1140
Under new management, Iguana's is famous for their tasty fried shrimp and scallops, and this is a casual bar and grill that offers wonderful outdoor seating and serves an array of salads, sandwiches, steaks, pasta dishes, and seafood daily for lunch and dinner. Live entertainment is also provided at various times.

Iguana's Review: A
We were seated immediately under the front porch which was cooled by ceiling fans aplenty. Tasty cheese sticks started us off on the right track along with some great sweet tea to wash 'em down. We shared the fried shrimp and scallops along with some french fries and hushpuppies, and everything was perfectly cooked and served with a smile. Light breading on the fresh shrimp and scallops made just the way we like them, allowing the seafood taste to come through instead of too much breading or fried grease. Kudos to Iguana's - we loved everything about this place!

Gracious southern porches with beautiful palms providing privacy and an intimate, tropical atmosphere for outside dining. We had a lovely dinner during a sunset thunderstorm one evening.

Mullet Bay Seafood Review: B
Fried seafood - Oysters and clam strips. Hushpuppies were unremarkable. C'mon, it's all about the hushpuppies folks. Manhattan clam chowder was extra thick and delicious! Great iced tea. Chicken quesadilla apps were excellent. Great service.

Bubba Garcia's Review: C
The salsa was rather bland and a bit too watery for my tastes. Needs more flavor! The beef burrito I had for my dinner was also unremarkable, just plain ol' ground beef and cheese without a hint of spice or other ingredients to make it more interesting to the tastebuds. Overall the food wasn't real good and it wasn't real bad either, it just needs some love from the kitchen to make it worth mentioning.

Dressner's Village Cafe Review: B
Breakfast all day (or at least til 2:00pm, which is closin' time)
Pancakes, juice, eggs, toast, bacon - Yummy! The Webmaster can't really judge this one because I chose to sleep in and I skipped breakfast, so I can't give it an "A" until this picky tongue has tasted it personally. However, the Webmaster's Chief Honeypie and Food Taster testified that it was excellent. And who doesn't like a good, simple down-home breakfast? And if She likes it, that's all that really matters. 'Nuff said.

The Surf Steakhouse
1175 N. Beachview Dr., Villas By The Sea, Jekyll Island, GA

The Surf Steakhouse Review: A
6 oz. Filet was excellent in both taste and preparation, served with the best, thick steak fries that somehow get harder to find as time goes by. Tasty dinner rolls too. Terrific steak, fries and bread - what else does a man need? I'm not hard to please, especially after working up a king-sized appetite all day at the Summer Waves water park, and this place is casual dining at its best. Good service too. Maybe the best all-around meal I had on the Islands.
